Ain becomes a national reference for deploying optic fibre cables

In 2007, the Ain Inter-municipal energy and e-communication syndicate committed itself to deploying an optic fibre network called LIAin (Liaison Internet de l'Ain) with the objective of making high-speed broadband available to professionals and private individuals in all the municipalities in the department (an FTTH network: Fibre To The Home).

The model that has been retained is unique in France as the Syndicate deploys the LIAin infrastructure whilst remaining its owner at the same time. Network operation is handled by a financially independent administrative body called RESO-LIAin.

LIAin represents a forecast global investment of 170 million Euros for installing approximately 3,000 km of optic fibre.

33 municipalities were already equipped with the high-speed broadband service by September 30th 2010.
